READY TO START AN APPRENTICESHIP?

WHAT IS THE RA?

The Electrical Apprentice Readiness Assessment (RA for short) is designed to assist aspiring electrical apprentices understand how well prepared they are (in terms of their literacy and numeracy skills) for the electrical trade program.

The Literacy section covers Reading and Writing skills at Australian Core Skill Framework (ACSF) level 3, the level recommended to give electrical apprentices the best chance of progressing through the qualification.

The Numeracy section is broken into the fifteen subtopics which underpin the first two years of the electrical trade program. The ACSF standard of the questions ranges from ACSF 1 (5 questions), ACSF 2 (13 questions), ACSF 3 (10 questions) and ACSF 4 (22 questions).

The subtopics covered, and the units they relate to, are outlined in the following table.

WHO IS THE RA FOR?

The RA has a number of prospective customers including;

Prospective apprentices can use the RA to understand the requirements of the training program and which subjects to focus on in Year 11 and 12. Holding an RA certificate can also look good on your resume!

Employers can use the RA as part of their recruitment process, to ensure they select apprentices ready to hit the ground running

RTOs use the RA to understand which apprentices may require additional support during their training and prevent barriers to progression

PREPARE FOR SUCCESS

Results from the RA are broken down by topic to help prospective apprentices understand their areas of strength and weakness. They can take their results back to their Secondary School or RTO for help from their teachers to address these, or select to undertake the ‘Practice Readiness Assessment’ self-paced course through Energy Space ($20).
